Iranian movies line up for Jaipur festival

TEHRAN – Four films by Iranian filmmakers will be competing in the 10th edition of the Jaipur International Film Festival, which will open in the Indian city today.

Directed by Maziar Miri, “Sara & Aida” and “Kupal” by Kazem Mollai will be screened in the feature film competition, the organizers announced.

“Sara & Aida” is about two close friends. The reputation of one of them is in danger as with each other’s help they need to figure out how they will resolve this issue.

Acclaimed drama “Kupal” tells the story of the hunter and taxidermist Dr. Ahmad Kupal who he faces an unexpected challenge on the last day of the year, just moments before the arrival of the New Year.

“The Man Who Wasn’t Here” by Ata Mojabi and “Crossing” by Farshad Abbasi will compete in the Short Fiction category.

The Indian drama “Angrezi Mein Kehte Hein” by Harish Vyas is the opening film of the festival, which will come to an end by screening “Lies We Tell” by Mitu Misra from the United Kingdom on January 10.

Iranian filmmakers have been frequent competitors at the festival over the past few years.

In 2017, “Inversion” by director/writer Behnam Behzadi won the Red Rose for best feature film as well as the Best Original Screenplay Award.

In addition, the award for best short film went to “Ketch” by Mehrdad Hasani and the Best War and Peace Film Award was presented to “Arvand” by Purya Azarbaijani.
